The Roma genocide is a topic that, after long and lost years, is finally coming to the forefront of people’s consciousness. In fact, during World War II, according to some figures, between 500,000 and 1,200,000 Roma lost their lives in concentration camps across Europe. The figure is thus
undefined, mainly because the Roma were not registered in the population registers at that time and did not have identity documents, which is still the case in some countries in Europe today.

The Roma Genocide – Part of European History project will mark a series of events in 2015 to commemorate and recall the atrocities that took place more than 70 years ago.

The project is part of the activities to encourage and promote the creation of the European Roma Capital.
