On Tuesday 21 June 2016, Štefan Simončič, President of the Association EPEKA, Soc. Ent., participated in the Better Future for Young People in the Western Balkans conference hosted by MEPs Franc Bogovič and Tanja Fajon at the European Parliament.

The Conference is based on the principles of the Berlin Process, which are to improve the prospects of the young generation in the Western Balkans, and on Slovenia’s commitment to play a leading role in this process, as confirmed by the positive agenda of the Brdo-Brijuni Summit last spring.

The aim of the conference was to further highlight the theme of improving the future of young people in the Western Balkans, as the Berlin Process Summit will be held again in Paris in July. The conference also aimed to help improve the future of young people in the Western Balkans by highlighting the importance of the European perspective.

The conference also brought together:

  • Dr Maja Makovec Brenčič, Minister of Education, Science and Sport, Republic of Slovenia
  • Ms Darja Bavdaž Kuret – State Secretary, Republic of Slovenia
  • Mr. Janez Škulj – President of the Board of Directors of MOVIT – Institute for the Development of Youth Mobility, Republic of Slovenia
  • Ms Tanja Miščević – Chief Negotiator with the European Union for the Accession Negotiations of Serbia, Serbia
  • Mr Muharem Bazdulj – writer and journalist from Bosnia and Herzegovina, based in Serbia
  • Mr Blendi Klosi – Minister for Youth and Social Affairs, Albania
  • Ms Zorica Stamenkovska – Macedonian Agency for Youth and Sport; representative of the Regional Youth Cooperation Office, Macedonia
