12 August, 2015
Maribor Island, Slovenia

Five organisations in the city (MMSM, the Association EPEKA, Soc. Ent., EKTC, Mkc Maribor and ŠOMB) joined the International Youth Day (12 August) and decided to co-create this day. For the first time, this time in the city by the river Drava, on the popular Maribor Island. With a 40% discount on all-day admission for EUR 3.00.

The aim of International Youth Day is to bring youth issues to the forefront and to make them known to the international community. An important aspect of the event is also to recognise youth as a partner, which has so far proved to be an untapped potential. Young people are an opportunity and undoubtedly offer progress for society as a whole. Engaging with young people on a global level thus brings a better quality of life and new skills that are needed in today’s globalising world.

In 2015, the theme of International Youth Day is youth civic engagement or active citizenship, which is also a key objective of the United Nations strategy on youth at all levels. Youth have no real access to political participation, decision-making, no economic power and, as a consequence, they are limited in their ability to connect with others or to change their miserable situation in society.

The International Youth Day event, which we are implementing together with Maribor Sports Facilities, the Municipality of Maribor, the Office for Youth, the Movit Institute and other partners, aims to raise awareness at local and national level about the importance of young people, the benefits to society of their civic engagement and the benefits to each individual, including for sustainable development as well as for basic things such as health and well-being.
Young people bring their full contribution to social progress, development and peace.
