On Monday, 5 December 2016, at 19:00, we cordially invite you to the European Voluntary Service Presentation .

5 December is International Volunteer Day.

The International Day of Volunteering for Economic and Social Development, or International Volunteer Day for short, was proclaimed by the United Nations at the 40th session of the General Assembly on 17 December 1985. Since then, governments, the United Nations and civil society organisations have joined volunteers from around the world in celebrating on 5 December.

The Association EPEKA, a social enterprise, is a voluntary organisation registered in the Register of Voluntary Organisations under the serial number 1210. We are also active in the field of international volunteering and participate in the EU’s Erasmus+ European Voluntary Service programme, which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year.

This year the Association EPEKA, Soc. Ent., volunteer Žiga Frišek, took part in a two-month volunteer service in Sinop, a town in the northern part of Turkey on the Black Sea.

He worked with children and youth with special needs. In their centre for people with special needs, he taught them new skills, especially chess and basketball.

At the same time, he also helped an organisation that cares for abandoned animals in this town and in the preparation of a festival that was held in Sinop this summer.

During his stay in Turkey, he also visited several other Turkish cities as well as Cyprus and Georgia. He returned to Slovenia by bus via Greece, Macedonia, Kosovo, Montenegro and Croatia. There he also visited some interesting places.

At the event in the EPEKA Gallery he will present his visions, observations, challenges and problems he faced, the nature of his work and the customs of the people and the community he lived in during the exchange. He will also share with us interesting experiences and unique stories.

The project is supported by the EU Erasmus+ programme and the Slovenian Youth Office.
