The Association EPEKA, Soc. Ent., received funding for the implementation of the project entitled Healthy Food for a Healthy Planet under the Food Wave program funded by the European Union.<\/p>\n

The main idea of our proposed project, named Healthy food for a healthy planet<\/em>, is to raise awareness about the importance of sustainable production and consumption of food for fighting climate change in urban areas among Roma youth through workshops, field visit, and public event.<\/p>\n

The project idea is particularly relevant for the Food Wave call for proposals since it is in line with the goals of Food Wave Project, DEAR Programme, and the Milan Urban Food Policy Pact. The project intends to engage the public in the environmental issues, create awareness of sustainable production and consumption of food in urban areas, and promote healthy, safe, environmentally friendly diets through relevant education.<\/p>\n

The territorial needs addressed by the proposed project are the needs to raise awareness on the role of sustainable food production and consumption in the fight against climate change, on the importance of locally, ecologically produced food, and its consumption, and to raise awareness on ways how to reduce food waste, especially among the Roma youth<\/strong>. There are 3 activities and 1 public event the project intends to implement. Firstly, a guided tour of the urban ecological community gardens will be organized, secondly, a workshop teaching youth how to grow their own food in city buildings, and thirdly, a cooking class focusing on preventing food waste. Last, but not least, an awareness-raising public event named Bathrobe day will be organized, where the problem of climate change will be stressed and sustainable urban food systems as one of the solutions presented.<\/p>\n

We will carry out 3 activities and 1 public event:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. guided tour of the gardens of the urban ecological community (5 June 2021),<\/li>\n
  2. a workshop in which young people will learn how to grow their own food in city buildings (16 June 2021),<\/li>\n
  3. a cooking class designed to prevent food waste (29 September 2021),<\/li>\n
  4. public event Bademantl day, where we will highlight the problem of climate change and present sustainable urban food systems as one of the solutions (27 August 2021).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    The project is funded by the European Commission<\/a> under the DEAR Programme<\/a> (The European Union\u2019s Development Education & Awareness Raising Program).
