The Mosaic of Generations Cooperative was founded by three individuals with different professional profiles and life experiences, who are furthering their knowledge by studying social gerontology at the Alma Mater Europaea, which eventually led to the idea of establishing the Mosaic of Generations Cooperative and our cooperation.<\/p>\n

The founders are aware that longer life expectancy, which is an increasingly characteristic phenomenon of developed societies, should be seen as a positive trend that opens up new, promising opportunities for us, the younger generations. For many years, developed European countries have been following good practice and setting up day activity centres for senior citizens. This is also partly the case in Slovenia, where, for example, there are seven such centres in Ljubljana alone, which are visited on a daily basis by an enviable number of users. Many people probably wonder why modern society needs such centres at all. The answer lies in the fact that the population of the EU as a whole is ageing, and the declining birth rate and longer life expectancy are factors that confirm this fact. Life expectancy is also rising in Slovenia, where those aged 64 and over already account for a sixth of the population of our sub-Alpine country, and this figure is set to rise to a third in the next few decades. The members of Mozaik Generations have registered their cooperative in the Municipality of Ptuj. As the name of the cooperative suggests, they will advocate and run programmes based on cooperation between different generations, helping to further intergenerational coexistence. Their first and foremost ambition is to open their first day activity centre for the elderly in Ptuj as soon as possible – talks and the search for a suitable space with the help of the municipality are already underway and they can hardly wait to put their mission into practice, i.e. to help seniors to make sense of the third stage of life, to guide them in the right way and to offer them a varied programme of activities.The aim of the cooperative is to provide a wide range of activities for the elderly.<\/p>\n
