The project Community organising – tool for Roma civic engagement is a project funded by the EU programme Europe for Citizens Strand 2: Democratic action and civic participation. The 16-month project starts in September 2015 and runs until the end of 2016 (Macedonia, Italia, Romania, Hungary, Slovakia, Slovenia).<\/p>\n
It focuses on the Roma ethnic minority. The majority of Roma are convinced that they do not benefit from the European Union and question its achievements. They claim that the Roma are excluded, their participation is marginal and their voice is not heard in the policy-making process. EU citizenship should be suitable for everyone, regardless of social, ethnic or political background.<\/p>\n
The project aims to promote community organising as a tool for civic and democratic participation and, at the same time, to promote volunteering in the Roma community, which contributes to greater participation of Roma in the life, debates and policy-making processes of the European Union. This reflects the need to increase their participation in European debates on values, history and future perspectives.<\/p>\n
