On the occasion of the International Day of Remembrance for the Victims of the Genocide against the Roma and Sinti, the Loli Luludi Society will organize a commemorative event “The Night the Violins Fell Silent”<\/strong>, which will take place on Thursday, July 30, 2026, at 10 a.m. at the Intimate Cinema in GT22 in Maribor.<\/p>\n

Remembering the tragic events of the Second World War is not only a tribute to the countless innocent victims, but also a reminder of the present and the future. The event aims to shed light on the dark chapters of European history that have been pushed to the margins of social memory for too long, while at the same time drawing attention to the importance of mutual respect, tolerance and the preservation of cultural heritage.<\/p>\n

PROGRAM<\/strong><\/p>\n

Keynote speaker:<\/strong> Jo\u017eek Horvat Muc, MSc, President of the Association of Roma of Slovenia and the Roma Association Romani Union.<\/p>\n

Cultural program:<\/strong> Members of the Loli Luludi Society will perform.<\/p>\n

Documentary Songs \u00a0of Pain and Memory<\/em> (2025):<\/strong> A screening of a shocking documentary film directed by Vera Kurti\u0107 (produced by RomaniPhen e.V. Berlin), which explores songs from Nazi camps in Serbia during World War II and documents an important aspect of Roma history through music, archival material and testimonies.<\/p>\n

Presentation of the project Connected to Culture<\/em>:<\/strong> Presentation of the project of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Slovenia aimed at promoting cultural engagement, intercultural dialogue and the preservation and promotion of Roma cultural heritage.<\/p>\n

The event is co-created and supported by: the Jewish Cultural Heritage Center Synagogue Maribor, the EPEKA Association, GT22, the Sonda Foundation, the Jewish Cultural Quarter and the Municipality of Maribor. The project is financially supported by the European Union and the competent ministries of the Republic of Slovenia (Ministry of Culture, Ministry of Education, Science and Culture and Ministry of the Interior and Public Administration)<\/em><\/p>\n
