10 – 12 August 2024
Ribniško Pohorje, Slovenia
The Association EPEKA, Soc. Ent., organised and held a workshop entitled “Mushroom Pigments and Forest Pedagogy Workshop” in Carinthia.
Between 10 and 12 August, the participants met with Associate Professor of Fine Arts Anja Jerčič Jakob and fungi expert Katarina Grabnar Apostolides. During the meeting, they discussed different types of fungi that could be used to create pigments in collaboration with the Faculty of Education at the University of Ljubljana, the Mycological Museum of Slovenia and other partners.
The next day, together with Prof. Jerčič and a few participants, including children, they went to the field in the forest near Kovačija PRI Kovač, near Janževský Vrho. There they found several species of mushrooms, which they collected for drying and preparing pigments. Although some mushrooms are not yet in season, some species will be available in the coming weeks or months, which makes the story of mushroom pigments even more interesting and continuing.
Participants were impressed by the number of mushrooms they could find on the Ribniško Pohorje, despite this year’s heat and drought. Besides the pigments, they were also impressed by the medicinal and edible mushrooms. The weekend was a success and they achieved all the objectives of the workshop, as well as enjoying the beautiful nature and good company.
Meeting duration: 3 hours
Duration of the field workshop with an introductory lecture on forest etiquette: 8 hours
The workshop leader would like to say a special thank you to everyone, for the good times in good company, with really wonderful and creative people, in beautiful nature, and of course amongst our beloved mushrooms.
