Our colleague Anica attended a comprehensive three-day training course DD – Decent Work, which was aimed at strengthening knowledge about precarious forms of work, the rights of young people in the labor market, and methods that youth workers can use in practice.
The program offered participants an in-depth insight into the concepts of decent and precarious work, an overview of the legislation and an understanding of the rights, obligations and risks that come with modern forms of employment. Special attention was also paid to occupational health and safety, workers’ organizations and worker protection mechanisms.
Participants discussed payroll, personal finances, social transfers and support measures that reduce the risk of poverty, while analyzing the situation on the Slovenian labor market and identifying key competencies for successful entry into the market. Topics such as entrepreneurship, career and life orientation, and international opportunities for young people within the framework of programs such as Erasmus+ and the European Solidarity Corps were also in the foreground.
The training also focused on the well-being of young people and youth workers, so part of the program addressed mental health care, personal and professional development planning, and mentoring. Participants developed approaches for using interviews, supervision, and other tools in everyday youth work, and designed their own activities and workshops on the topic of precariousness that they can incorporate into the work of their organizations.
The training was led by renowned experts in the field of youth work and labor rights – Maruša Goršak (e-ŠS), Urška Česnik (Zavod TiPovej!) and Nejc Benčič (Creation Hub). In addition to the rich program, participants also received practical material, networking opportunities, and access to free legal advice that they can use for themselves or when working with young people.
We are pleased that Anica attended the training and gained new knowledge and experience that will significantly contribute to our further work with young people and strengthening the understanding of decent work in the community.
