In September 2026, the EPEKA Association, so. p. officially embarked on the implementation of a new important project entitled “Assistance in the Integration of Persons Granted International Protection” (duration: September 2026 – December 2027). The operation is co-financed by the European Union and the Office of the Government of the Republic of Slovenia for the Care and Integration of Migrants.

The project is intended for persons with recognized international protection and their family members (third-country nationals who have arrived in the Republic of Slovenia on the basis of family reunification), with the aim of offering them firm support and comprehensive treatment when entering a new living space.

The activities of the operation are carried out mainly in the area of Maribor and, if necessary, in other locations, and include a wide range of content for everyday empowerment:

  • Courses for learning about Slovenian society: They help in understanding cultural and social values, customs and everyday life in Slovenia.
  • Operational and Living Assistance: Support in arranging housing and other everyday life issues.
  • Learning aid: Strengthening school knowledge and making it easier to follow the educational process.
  • Integration, sports and cultural activities: Content that promotes getting to know each other, social networking and active inclusion in the local community.

Why are such projects crucial for our society?

Nowadays, successful integration is one of the greatest societal challenges, but also the greatest opportunity to build a resilient, tolerant and prosperous community. The implementation of projects such as this is extremely important for several key reasons:

  1. Transition from survival to independent living: People who are forced to leave their homes due to wars or persecution face enormous hardship. Comprehensive support enables them to overcome initial obstacles, become confident and independent members of society.
  2. Strengthening social cohesion: Prejudices are broken down through appropriate programmes, such as social learning courses, sports and cultural activities. They promote mutual understanding and respect between locals and new residents, and build bridges between different cultures.
  3. Prevention against marginalisation: Without proper help and guidance, vulnerable groups can find themselves on the margins of society. Integration projects offer a safety net that prevents social exclusion and opens the door to education and the labour market.
  4. Investing in the future of all of us: Successful integration means that each individual can contribute their potential, knowledge and energy to the development of the society in which they live. The inclusion of children and young people through learning and social assistance ensures a more stable future for the entire community in the long term.
