Štefan Simončič, President of EPEKA, will participate in the First International Conference on Cultural Routes in the framework of the European Roma Heritage Routes – European Roma Route – Slovenian Roma Route project.
Organised by the University of Santiago de Compostela, Spain. The conference will take place on 13-14 November 2024 and will bring together experts, researchers and representatives of cultural organisations to discuss the impact of cultural routes on heritage, education, economy and sustainable development. The event will include panel discussions, lectures, workshops and cultural activities such as guided tours of the historic centre of Santiago de Compostela and a hike along part of the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage route.
Following the two successful editions of the Academic Workshops on Cultural Routes held online in 2021 and 2023, this event represents the 1st international conference organised live within the framework of the University Network for Cultural Routes Studies. The aim of the conference is to highlight existing research and academic activities of universities and to lay the foundations for future new actions and collaborations in the field of cultural pathways.
The programme will present theoretical perspectives, state-of-the-art research reports, case studies and research work on cultural pathways from different fields and universities across Europe. Presentations and discussions will focus on four main themes:
- Academic and scientific contributions to cultural pathways. The case of the pilgrimage routes to Santiago de Compostela”
- “Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe: meeting points of heritage, education and community in transnational networks”
- “Measuring impacts along the cultural routes of the Council of Europe: economic benefits, sustainability and management strategies”
- “Landscape, tourism and new trends: an integrated approach to the cultural routes of the Council of Europe”
ROMHERITAGE is a two-year pilot project co-funded by the European Commission to discover, identify and preserve Roma cultural heritage in Spain, Italy and Slovenia, as a first step towards the creation of a growing number of national itineraries across our continent. The European Roma Heritage Routes will make the most important Roma cultural expressions visible and will link neighbourhoods, monuments, museums, festivals, cultural, educational, documentation centres, etc.
