NIJZ

5 May is World Hand Hygiene Day, which has particular significance during the COVID-19 pandemic we are in the midst of.

The NIJZ has produced guidance and visual materials on good hand hygiene. “Our hands can transmit pathogens of various diseases. These can get on the skin of our hands when we come into contact with different parts of our body and when we come into contact with infected people, objects or surfaces. When we touch our body, especially our mouth, nose or eyes, with contaminated hands, we introduce pathogens into our body. This can lead to infection, so it is important not to touch your face, especially your mouth, nose and eyes, with dirty or uncleaned hands. Contaminated hands can also transmit pathogens to other people and to objects and surfaces that we touch. When another person touches a contaminated object or surface, infection can be transmitted. “
