The AssociationEPEKA, Soc. Ent., organises a local educational activity within the international Erasmus+ project “From Home to Home“.
The “From home to home” project aims at the psychological adaptation of young migrants in Europe, using the “peer-to-peer” principle.
The main objective of this project is to facilitate the social integration of young migrants while developing the competences they need to succeed in a globalised world.
Local educational activities are led by young individuals according to a peer-to-peer approach. The youth workers have been selected on the basis of their relevant experience in youth work, which makes them suitable to work with participants at peer-to-peer level. The peer-to-peer method is effective as it allows to connect with young people’s challenges and interests, while creating a more relaxed and open environment for communication and interaction.
The “Living Library” activity is based on a peer-to-peer approach, where youth workers lead conversations between participants, encouraging a relaxed and open dialogue. This method is highly successful in stimulating peer-to-peer conversations and provides deeper insights into local and global challenges through the sharing of personal stories and experiences.
Expected outcomes of the local learning activity:
- Strengthening of social ties between local youth and migrant participants from Ukraine.
- Understanding and awareness of cultural diversity.
- Positive feedback from participants on feeling included and having fun.
- Improving teamwork and communication skills through group activities.
- Improving knowledge about EU programmes, in particular Erasmus+, and how young people can benefit from the EU.
- Improving knowledge on EU values, intercultural dialogue, gender equality, the Sustainable Development Goals, the Green Deal, peace and other relevant issues for today.
- To foster empathy between the native population and minorities.
- Successful implementation of the peer-to-peer method, whereby participants would respond positively to having a facilitator close to their age.
The Living Library is an excellent example of how history and personal stories can be used to create bridges between people of different cultures and backgrounds. In this way, Erasmus+ not only promotes the development of competences, but also creates a space for empathy and mutual understanding in an increasingly globalised world.
