The Association EPEKA, Soc. Ent., organised and held a lecture on winter Fungi and a culinary workshop: “Making pizzas with cultivated winter mushrooms”.

The lecture and culinary workshop was led by fungi expert Katarina Grabnar Apostolides.

Unlike most plants, mushrooms thrive without sunlight and need little space. This makes them ideal for the indoor garden. They also provide a constant supply of fresh and nutritious food in a season when local produce is hard to find.

Growing mushrooms indoors in winter not only keeps your gardening spirit alive. It also provides an interesting and easy way to increase self-sufficiency. There are many types of mushrooms that adapt well to the indoor environment, from oyster mushrooms to gourmet shiitakes and unique varieties such as lion’s mane.

By researching using the internet, this information can be found below:

Hericium erinaceus, or the fringed bearded mushroom, is an extremely tasty and highly valued edible and medicinal mushroom. It grows on the wood of fallen trees, mainly in the northern hemisphere (Europe, East Asia, North America). It has a distinctive shape and texture, resembling a beard, including a lion’s mane.

The fringed beard has a long tradition in traditional Chinese medicine and is a highly valued mushroom.

More information will be given at the lecture.

Our programmes are co-financed by the Slovenian Youth Office, the Municipality of Maribor and Erasmus+.
