The EPEKA Association will also be holding a cycle of workshops, lectures and discussions in 2025 as part of the program Living Problems of Youth or Youth Autonomy program.

The purpose of the entire program will be to facilitate the transition to adult life for young people, also by empowering them to be independent in the area of housing. The meetings will be aimed at gaining knowledge, exchanging experiences and understanding the key challenges that young people face in becoming independent. Through a variety of content, we will provide young people with insight into practical procedures, financial aspects, alternative options and the broader social contexts of housing conditions.

At the lecture High Rents and Low Wages: The Reality of Youth, we will analyze why the gap between the cost of living and the income of young people is increasing year by year. Participants will learn about current data on rental prices and housing affordability in Slovenia. We will discuss the main reasons for the growth of rents, including tourism, lack of construction and investment property purchases. We will also address the impact of inflation and the cost of living on young people who want to achieve independence. We will talk about the psychological consequences of the financial pressure that young people experience due to challenging circumstances. In the practical part, we will calculate typical monthly living costs and options for reducing them. The meeting will also focus on finding realistic solutions that would enable young people to achieve independence faster and more stably.

Due to the limited number of places, we ask you to register in advance at epeka@epeka.si or in person. The activity is co-financed by the City of Maribor and the Slovenian Youth Office.
