The Association EPEKA will also be holding a cycle of workshops, lectures and discussions in 2025 as part of the program Living Problems of Youth or Youth Autonomy program.

The purpose of the entire program will be to facilitate the transition to adult life for young people, also by empowering them to be independent in the area of housing. The meetings will be aimed at gaining knowledge, exchanging experiences and understanding the key challenges that young people face in becoming independent. Through a variety of content, we will provide young people with insight into practical procedures, financial aspects, alternative options and the broader social contexts of housing conditions.

At the Housing Cooperatives as an Alternative workshop, we will explore the possibilities that cooperative models offer young people in solving the housing shortage. Participants will learn the basic principles of cooperative operations and the reasons why cooperatives are a key part of housing policy in many countries. We will present how the financial structure of cooperatives works and how price stability can be achieved through joint efforts. We will discuss examples of good practices from Austria, Switzerland, Germany and other countries where cooperatives have been operating successfully for decades. We will discuss the advantages of non-profit rents, transparent management and community support. We will explain the process of establishing a cooperative and the legal frameworks that must be taken into account. In conclusion, we will consider the possibilities of transferring the cooperative model to Slovenia and the first steps that young people can take in this regard.

Due to the limited number of places, we ask you to register in advance at epeka@epeka.si or in person. The activity is co-financed by the City of Maribor and the Slovenian Youth Office.
