The Association EPEKA will also be holding a cycle of workshops, lectures and discussions in 2025 as part of the Living Problems of Youth or Youth Autonomy program.
The purpose of the entire program will be to facilitate the transition to adult life for young people, also by empowering them to be independent in the area of housing. The meetings will be aimed at gaining knowledge, exchanging experiences and understanding the challenges that young people face in becoming independent. Through a variety of content, we will provide young people with insight into practical procedures, financial aspects, alternative options and the broader social contexts of housing conditions.
In the lecture Housing Solutions for Youth in the EU, we will present an overview of the most innovative and successful approaches used by individual countries to improve housing opportunities for young people. Participants will learn about examples of countries where the emphasis is on non-profit rental, housing cooperatives, colivings and special programs for young first-time home seekers. We will analyze why some models are extremely successful and what conditions are necessary for their operation. We will discuss the role of national and local policies in providing affordable and quality housing and how different subsidy schemes encourage the independence of young people. Participants will be able to compare which environments are most favorable to young people and why. In conclusion, we will consider which solutions would be most feasible in Slovenia and how young people themselves could contribute to the creation of a fairer housing system.
Due to the limited number of places, we ask you to register in advance at epeka@epeka.si or in person. The activity is co-financed by the City of Maribor and the Slovenian Youth Office.
