European Day of Parks: City Park as a space for nature, community and youth learning
On the occasion of the European Day of Parks, we invite you to join us for a visit and walk through Maribor City Park, where together with young people we will explore the importance of urban green spaces for nature, health, community and quality of life.
Parks are important spaces in the city. They provide shade, space for relaxation, movement, socialising and contact with nature. At the same time, they are habitats for many plant and animal species and an important part of urban resilience to heatwaves, pollution and climate change. City Park is not only a place of passage or recreation, but also a space for learning, observation and connection.
The event is being prepared together with young people, who will participate in preparing the content, observation tasks and carrying out the walk. EPEKA youth workers will support them as facilitators, helping them organise the activity, encouraging cooperation and opening up space for reflection on the importance of green areas in the urban environment.
During the walk, we will observe trees, plants, birds, insects, water elements and other features of the park. We will discuss how parks affect people’s well-being, why they are important for young people and how they can contribute to a more inclusive city. We will also reflect on who uses the park, how we feel in it and how green spaces can remain accessible, safe and pleasant for different groups of residents.
Special attention will be given to responsible behaviour in the park: respect for nature, waste management, protection of trees and lawns, coexistence with animals and the use of public space in a way that does not exclude others. Young people will invite participants to reflect on what could be improved in city parks and how residents can actively participate in caring for shared green spaces.
The event is intended for everyone who wishes to experience City Park in a slightly different way – as an outdoor classroom, a community space and an important part of the city’s environmental future.
🎯 Participation is free of charge, but the number of places is limited – register as soon as possible!
