Lake Bohinj and Savica Waterfall area
As part of mycological activities, Katarina Grabnar Apostolides, a collaborator of the EPEKA Association, led a professional excursion to the surroundings of Lake Bohinj and the Savica Waterfall, where she conducted field monitoring of growing fungal species together with a small group of participants.
Despite the exceptional natural backdrop and suitable habitat, conditions for fungal growth were still quite unfavorable. The group managed to identify approximately 15 species of fungi, mostly wood-dwelling, growing on decaying wood and tree debris. Two species of true slime molds, which represent a lesser-known but ecologically important group of organisms, also attracted particular interest.
Observations showed that fungal growth is still weak due to weather conditions during this period, which confirms the importance of regular field monitoring and documentation of the occurrence of individual species. Such excursions are important for understanding the mycological diversity of Slovenian forests and for raising awareness of the importance of fungi in the ecosystem.
The excursion was organized as part of the cooperation between the EPEKA Association, so. p., and the Mycological Museum of Slovenia – Zavod Natura Slovenika.
