Representatives of the Association EPEKA, a social enterprise, will participate in an online seminar on Cultural Policy Making in Europe for Free and Democratic Societies.

The webinar is organized in cooperation with the UNESCO Chair for Cultural Policies for the Arts and Transformation at the University of Hildesheim and ifa – Institut für Auslandsbeziehungen.

Europe is currently facing major challenges: in relations between East and West, different perspectives require new solutions, while at the same time there is growing pressure to question the European idea and its democratic values, further fueling disruptive tendencies, fragmentation, and polarization across the continent. Right-wing populist parties in particular are gaining influence. How can the cultural sector contribute to strengthening European democracies? What mistakes and shortcomings need to be acknowledged? How can cultural venues as third places help to promote cultural dialogue and negotiation? In her lecture “Context and dimensions of (cultural) policies for strengthening European democracy,” Sylvia Amann will explore how cultural policies can be designed to foster new cultural narratives for a united, democratic, and vibrant Europe.
