Representatives of the Association EPEKA, Soc. Ent., will participate in the online seminar “Integrating the social and solidarity economy into the 4th International Conference on Financing for Development (FfD4)”
This webinar is intended for FfD4 negotiators. The aim of the webinar is to follow up on United Nations General Assembly Resolution No. 79/213, adopted in December 2024, which “encourages Member States to examine how the social and solidarity economy can contribute to relevant future multilateral processes, such as the Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development.”
First, the current state of negotiations in mid-May and the progress made by Member States and civil society organizations advocating for the inclusion of the SSE will be discussed ahead of the preparatory committee in mid-June. We will also discuss possible ways to implement the mandate of Resolution 79/213. (Possible changes supported by arguments based on the first draft of the FfD 4 outcome document are included in Annex 2 of the full concept note for this event). Secondly, the webinar will be an opportunity to exchange practical ways to optimally increase financing for the SSE, particularly in developing countries, based on the TWG report and the policy report “Financing Development: Unlocking the Potential of the Social and Solidarity Economy,” prepared by the UNTFSSE secretariat under the responsibility of the ILO.
The role of the SSE in resilient, inclusive, and sustainable economies has been recognized in two UN resolutions, as well as in the ILO resolution on decent work and the SSE, the OECD recommendation on the SSE and social innovation, the European Commission’s action plan for the social economy, the African Union’s ten-year strategy and implementation plan for the SSE, and the establishment of the Ibero-American Network for the Promotion of Social Solidarity (RIFESS). It is therefore essential that the SSE be included in the outcome of FfD4 and its follow-up.
