The Association EPEKA, Soc. Ent., within the framework of the EU Youth Cinema: Green Deal project, invites you to an online discussion.

Start Up for a Reason showcases influential entrepreneurs from developing countries who are fighting for a better world. In Papua New Guinea, Kenya, Indonesia and the Amazon, extraordinary women and men are using entrepreneurship to solve the most pressing global challenges, such as food insecurity, education, plastic pollution and deforestation.

The discussion will feature Mehdi Balamissa, the film’s director from Canada, and Amanda Santana, the main protagonist and entrepreneur from Brazil. Participants will have the opportunity to listen to their personal stories and challenges, and ask questions about how young people can also develop entrepreneurial ideas with social impact.

The event will be held in English and is open to everyone – especially young people, students, entrepreneurial enthusiasts and youth workers interested in the connection between entrepreneurship, innovation and social responsibility.

EPEKA has already screened the film Start Up for a Reason at two major events in Slovenia:

  • EU Youth Cinema: Green Deal – Maribor (November 20, 2024, Cineplexx Maribor)
  • EU Youth Cinema: Green Deal – Kranj (September 26, 2024, Cineplexx Kranj)

A total of 803 high school students attended the screenings at both locations, which confirms the great interest of young people in topics that combine entrepreneurship and social responsibility.

The entire program is free of charge, funded by the EU (program: Audience Development and Film Education), and co-financed by the Austrian Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, Regions and Water Management (BMLUK), Vienna Insurance Group | Wiener Städtische and the Association for the Collection of Audiovisual Materials (VAM). The international cinema group Cineplexx also supports the project as an exclusive cinematographic partner.
