As part of the Catching up with digital space project the Association EPEKA, Soc. Ent., held training sessions for older people.
As part of our long-term Erasmus+ project “Catching up with digital space”, which aims to exchange experiences in the field of media literacy and online safety education for older people, we have organised training sessions for older people on media literacy, online safety and fake news.
The whole project was based on the exchange of experience and knowledge between generations, as we realised how important it is for older people to understand and master modern technological challenges. Our aim was to ensure that older people feel safe and confident when using the internet and social media.
We started by delivering media literacy training sessions, explaining to participants how to spot fake news and how to protect themselves from online threats. Through research and practical exercises, we taught them how to critically evaluate the information they find online and how to identify misleading content. Using different online tools and applications became part of their daily routine.
More than 100 older individuals aged 50 and over have been involved in the project as part of local activities. These activities included workshops, lectures and social events where participants could get to know each other, exchange experiences and create a safe digital environment among themselves.
