As part of the #CLTVirtualSummit2026 Global Virtual Summit, a key discussion was held on June 9, organized by the California Community Land Trust Network. The session focused on exploring solidarity and partnerships between Community Land Trust (CLT) models and Indigenous communities in California.
Key highlights of the debate:
- Advancing Indigenous Initiatives: Initiatives were presented that actively implement the concepts of Land Back, Rematriation, Reparations, Food Sovereignty and Cultural Revitalization through the CLT model.
- Structural approach to partnerships: Speakers highlighted that the success of these efforts is based on building strong coalitions and community-led governance. The discussion highlighted how to address challenges and seize opportunities for systemic change in the current political context.
- Support for Indigenous Leadership: One of the central themes was the role of CLTs as support structures that do not take the initiative, but enable Indigenous self-determination and stewardship of the land.
Broader context: The event is part of a six-week series of free online sessions taking place between 5 May and 10 June 2026. The entire summit, organised by international community land networks, serves as a platform to connect practitioners, organisers and allies.
