The ROMASOUL project is an international initiative aimed at preserving and promoting the rich culture of the Roma community through an innovative fusion of music and culinary traditions. Funded by the European Union under the Creative Europe Programme (CREA-CULT-2024-COOP), the project brings together partners from Serbia, Greece and Slovenia and highlights the importance of cross-border cooperation in preserving cultural diversity.

The main aim of the project is to present contemporary Roma culture as a dynamic and diverse phenomenon and to reduce the stigmatisation and marginalisation of the Roma community. The main activities include the creation of a digital music album with Roma musicians, the creation of a digital archive of recipes in the Roma language and the organisation of a music and culinary event.

Three organisations are involved in the project: the Centre for Popular Music Research (CEPOM) from Serbia, which is coordinating the project; Qualia, a Greek organisation specialising in cultural heritage and culinary research; and EPEKA from Slovenia, which is working to integrate Roma and promote their cultural heritage. Together, they bring expertise in music, research, education and community work, bringing together different perspectives and approaches.

ROMASOUL promotes intercultural dialogue, brings together artists, researchers and Roma communities, and opens up new opportunities for creative expression and economic development. The digital album and recipe archive not only preserve the rich oral tradition of the Roma, but also bring it to a wider audience. In addition to its cultural significance, the project contributes to reducing the environmental footprint, as all activities focus on digital distribution and sustainable use of resources.

This innovative project demonstrates how culture can become a bridge between different communities and promote understanding, respect and inclusion of diversity.
