Murska Sobota / Lendava

We have completed Module III of the Slovenian Roma Route project – a five-day camp and training.

As part of the Active Camp, the Roma Academic Club, in cooperation with the Lendava People’s University and the Perec Lendava Centre for Families, organised a five-day camp and training, bringing together young people from vulnerable groups, including members of the Roma community. Supported by the activities, the young people acquired enhanced knowledge and competences related to Roma cultural heritage, while working on understanding values such as discipline, teamwork, interconnection, communication, self-esteem and self-confidence. A diverse group of vulnerable young people were included in the pool of twelve individuals, adding to the activities the special value of building and maintaining coexistence. Through the activities, we witnessed the learning, education and information of several cultures at the same time. The aim of the whole project activities of the Roma Academic Club was to teach young Roma and young members of vulnerable groups more about the Roma community and its cultural heritage, to introduce them to Roma culture, language and history in order to better connect with the Roma community and promote intercultural cooperation. As part of the activities, we trained participants to support the implementation of a camp in a Roma settlement, which we carried out in August in cooperation with the Lendava People’s University. The 40 hours of activities completed the training series entitled Getting to know Roma culture and Roma cultural heritage.
