In August, the Association EPEKA , Soc. Ent., started the implementation of the project “With culture to inclusion”, funded by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Slovenia and the European Social Fund. We applied for the project within the public call for proposals Supporting environment for cultural activities 2020, as we want to empower the participants with additional cultural skills through trainings.

Seven participants have joined the project; all of them are members of the Roma community who want to improve their knowledge and skills and learn how to become active within the cultural field with the support of additional trainings. We chose this specific target group because we want to support them in promoting creativity and proactivity, which can also be achieved in the context of cultural activities. In the course of our work with women members of the Roma community, we have noticed the need to increase their organisation, and we will therefore support them in the implementation of the project with additional skills that could have a positive impact on the target group’s self-initiated and independent approach to the implementation of cultural content and to bringing Roma cultural heritage to the wider public.

The training will be 174 hours long and will consist of two parts. The first part of the training will cover the organisation of cultural events and the second part will cover the application and implementation of cultural projects. During the training, the participants will have the support of an enhanced mentoring system, which will help them to acquire practical skills and to prepare the final products of the training in an active and collaborative way.

Within the project, the participants will acquire specific skills necessary for the organisation of cultural events (development of social and functional competences, development of competences in the field of communication), with the support of the activities they will gain a better insight into cultural production at local and national level, they will learn possible ways of networking and planning cooperation with other stakeholders, they will develop their sense of creative creation, they will become familiar with the principles of promotion and communication with the media. Participants will also put their newly acquired theoretical knowledge into practice, in the context of the first project of creators in the field of culture. Participants in the training on the application and implementation of cultural projects will gain additional knowledge in the field of development, application and implementation of cultural projects; they will acquire specific skills related to applying for public calls for proposals, information on partnership building, administrative management, project reporting, skills in dissemination of project results and competences that are crucial for the implementation of the projects applied for, i.e. organisational competences. At the end of the project, the results of the activities will be presented to the wider public.
