The President of the Association EPEKA, Soc. Ent., Štefan Simončič, will take part in the web consultation Accommodation for All, organised by the PES Group – European Committee of the Regions.
More than 80 million people in Europe are affected by the lack of affordable housing. The COVID-19 pandemic has worsened the situation as more and more people struggle to pay their rent or energy bills. But what is coming to the surface has longer structural roots, stemming from deeper housing inequalities and threatening the very fabric of our society.
Housing is a human right that must be guaranteed to all. For a socially just and sustainable recovery, we need to ensure that all citizens have decent, affordable and sustainable housing. Progressive cities and regions have already put in place innovative solutions that can catalyse further action on the ground. The PES Group, in partnership with the Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament, the Foundation for European Progressive Studies (FEPS), the Party of European Socialists (PES) and the City of Vienna, is organising a week of online discussions and a film screening dedicated to this important topic, with a host of speakers who will share their experiences from different perspectives and who will present progressive ideas on the way forward.
