Oeiras, Portugal

The Association EPEKA, Soc. Ent., is a partner in the Action for our Europe Youth Exchange, which takes place in Oeiras, near Lisbon, Portugal, and is supported by the EU’s Erasmus+ Youth Programme.

Young people from Portugal, France, Italy, Bulgaria, Romania, Spain, Greece and Slovenia are taking part in the project.

The main themes chosen for the project are: European citizenship, awareness of the EU and democracy, inclusion and equality, healthy lifestyles and active ageing.

Each group consists of four young people (aged 18-25) and a youth leader.

During the programme, young people take part in a variety of non-formal learning activities linked to European diversity. They aim to highlight not only the cultural differences that reflect the identities of each country, but also the many similarities that link the participating countries, and in this way to provide non-formal education and, most importantly, to combat stereotypes and contribute to the development of a more inclusive Europe.

The exchange includes working groups, studios, sports activities, cultural visits, volunteering activities and street actions. A “marketplace of cultures” is also planned, in which each country or organisation presents its country and culture in the local community.

Young people have the opportunity to get to know the local community in Portugal and to get in touch with Portuguese culture, customs, traditions and also to share and showcase their culture.

The aim of the youth exchange is to raise young people’s awareness of their role in society and to spread the importance of intercultural dialogue in order to achieve the goal of a more inclusive Europe for all.
