The Association EPEKA, Soc. Ent., organises a local sports activity as part of the international Erasmus+ project “From Home to Home”.
The “From home to home” project aims at the psychological adaptation of young migrants in Europe, using the “peer-to-peer” principle.
The aim and objective of the local sports activity is to provide an interesting and inclusive environment for young people aged between 15 and 25, including Ukrainian youth currently staying with us due to the situation in Ukraine. The activities aim to promote social inclusion, physical activity and intercultural dialogue, while supporting the social integration of Ukrainian youth into the local community.
Local sports activities are led by young individuals in a peer-to-peer approach. The youth workers have been selected on the basis of relevant experience in youth work, which makes them suitable to work with participants at peer level. The peer-to-peer method is effective as it allows to connect with young people’s challenges and interests, while creating a more relaxed and open environment for communication and interaction.
Expected outcomes of the local sport activity:
- Strengthening of social ties between local youth and migrant participants from Ukraine.
- Understanding and awareness of cultural diversity.
- Positive feedback from participants on feeling included and having fun.
- Improving teamwork and communication skills through group activities.
- Improving knowledge about EU programmes, in particular Erasmus+, and how young people can benefit from the EU.
- Improving knowledge on EU values, intercultural dialogue, gender equality, the Sustainable Development Goals, the Green Deal, peace and other relevant issues for today.
- Encourage empathy between the native population and minorities.
- Successful implementation of the peer-to-peer method, whereby participants would respond positively to having a facilitator close to their age.
