On the occasion of the International Day of Forests, we invite you to join us for an event dedicated to reflecting on the role of forests in our lives, our environment and the future of young people.
Forests are much more than groups of trees. They are habitats for many animal and plant species, natural climate regulators, sources of clean air, water retainers and important spaces for relaxation, movement, learning and community-building. In a time of climate change, heatwaves, drought and biodiversity loss, their role is becoming even more important.
The event will be prepared together with young people, who will participate in designing the content, preparing questions and carrying out the activities. They will explore what the forest means to them, how they use it, what they notice in it and how they can contribute to its protection. EPEKA youth workers will act as facilitators, supporting young people in reflection, cooperation and the development of shared conclusions.
During the event, we will address responsible behaviour in forests, the importance of forest etiquette, our relationship with animals and plants, the gathering of forest fruits, waste management and the impact of human activities on forest ecosystems. Special attention will also be given to urban and suburban forests, which are often the closest contact with nature for many young people.
Young people will prepare a short discussion on how the forest can become an outdoor classroom – a space where we learn observation, cooperation, responsibility and respect for natural processes. Together, we will also reflect on how youth work can encourage more time in nature and strengthen young people’s environmental awareness.
The event will include discussion, group work and the development of concrete proposals for responsible behaviour in forests. It is intended for young people and everyone who believes that nature protection is not only the task of experts, but a shared responsibility of the whole community.
