Jelovica, Slovenia

The Association EPEKA, Soc. Ent., in cooperation with the Micological Museum of Slovenia, is organizing a professional excursion entitled “Exploring Fungi on Jelovica.” It will be led by Katarina Apostolides, a renowned mushroom expert and enthusiastic nature researcher.

Jelovica, a vast and biologically rich plateau, offers an exceptional environment for an in-depth exploration of the world of fungi. Participants will explore the diversity of fungi in the field, learn about their role in the forest ecosystem, and learn to identify edible, medicinal, and poisonous species.

Special emphasis will be placed on responsible harvesting, preserving the natural balance, and the importance of fungi for a healthy environment. Katarina Apostolides will share her rich experience and scientific and practical insights into mycology with participants.

The excursion is part of EPEKE’s broader efforts to strengthen environmental literacy, promote field learning, and connect people with nature.

The entire youth program is free of charge for EPEKE participants, as it is funded by the City of Maribor, the Office of the Republic of Slovenia for Youth, and the Ministry of Public Administration. Other partners also contribute to its implementation and provide additional support for the program.
