The Reuse Centres were set up within the framework of the project “ESTABLISHING THE CONDITIONS FOR THE OPERATION OF A NETWORK OF GREEN JOBS REUSE CENTRES”, co-financed by the Ministry of Labour, Family, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities and the European Social Fund.
The centre is open to anyone who wants to bring in useful products and who wants to buy refurbished products at a nominal price. The green price shows real savings at the expense of the environment and has an environmental awareness value, as no one today asks how much raw materials, water, energy and emissions are needed for a new product. By throwing away products that are still useful, we are throwing away raw materials, wasting energy, water and polluting the environment. The consortium of the Environmental Research Institute (ORZ) and the Technological Centre for Applied Ecology, which is implementing the Re-use Centres project, has successfully applied for a public call for proposals to promote the development of social entrepreneurship under the fourth development priority, Equal opportunities and promotion of social inclusion, Priority Axis 4. The Re-use Centre in Rogaška Slatina (location: Tuncovec Collection Centre) is the first of its kind in Slovenia to provide training and further employment to unemployed persons from vulnerable target groups. According to Dr. Marinka Vovk from EKO-TCE, the Re-use Centre, in addition to carrying out refurbishment processes of still useful products, plays an essential role in adding value to such products, as they are given a completely new function, while at the same time offering practical services to households and citizens, who can have a variety of products repaired, repainted, sewn or restored here.
The new jobs at the Re-use Centre extend the life of products that are still useful and prevent them from ending up in landfill too soon. As the EU gives high priority to waste prevention and reuse, such centres are opening up all over Slovenia, providing opportunities for nature protection and new jobs in waste management. Waste is not just a problem, it can be a challenge.
