Reuse of Second-Hand Clothing: young people for responsible fashion
We invite you to join us for an event dedicated to the reuse of second-hand clothing, responsible fashion and reflection on how a different attitude towards clothes can help reduce waste and contribute to a more sustainable everyday life.
Clothing is an important part of our identity, self-expression and daily life. At the same time, fast fashion encourages excessive consumption, short product lifespans and the creation of large amounts of textile waste. We often buy more than we need, and clothes are discarded before they are truly worn out. This is why the reuse of second-hand clothing is one of the simplest and most accessible ways to reduce our environmental footprint.
The event will be carried out in cooperation with young people, who will actively participate in preparing the questions, discussion and activities. EPEKA youth workers will support them as facilitators, helping them connect personal experiences with environmental topics, understand the broader context of consumption and prepare content for participants.
As part of the event, we will visit the Mura pop-up second-hand clothing shop at Gorkega ulica 34. The visit will provide an opportunity to discuss clothing quality, reuse, repairs, exchanges, local initiatives and a different attitude towards shopping. Young people will reflect on how second-hand clothing can become part of a creative, accessible and environmentally responsible lifestyle.
We will also discuss why it is important not to judge clothes only by whether they are new, but by how long we can use them, how they were made, who made them and what happens to them when we no longer wear them. Participants will be invited to reflect on their own shopping habits, opportunities for clothing swaps, repairs and donations, and on how small changes can help reduce textile waste.
The event will combine environmental awareness, youth work, creativity and a practical visit to a space where reuse is not just an idea, but an everyday practice. The aim of the activity is to offer young people a space for reflection, discussion and concrete experience that encourages a more responsible attitude towards fashion, consumption and the environment.
🎯 Participation is free of charge, but the number of places is limited – register as soon as possible!
