Members of the Epeka Association will attend the international final conference of the EU PROTEUS project (2023–2026), which the SLOGA Platform is preparing in Ljubljana in cooperation with the Transatlantic Foundation.
At a time when fundamental democratic values and human rights across Europe are being seriously challenged, a key question has come to the fore: Who defends democracy when it regresses?
The event represents the crown of many years of international cooperation aimed at strengthening the role of civil society and addressing contemporary challenges of democratic processes.
The conference is open to all NGOs, activists, professionals, students and the general public – all those who believe in helping, protecting fundamental human rights and building a stronger, more cohesive European civil society.
The conference will bring together prominent experts, decision-makers from the Slovenian and European political level, as well as representatives of non-governmental organizations from as many as eight European countries. Together, they will shed light on structural pressures on democracy, discuss trends in the backsliding of freedoms and look for effective ways to make civil society resilient.
In addition to the main discussion, there will also be two interactive workshops that offer practical tools for fieldwork:
- Depolarization, or how to transform conversations about divisive topics – performed by the experienced Slovak NGO PDCS.
- From local challenges to political dialogue and democratic changes – implemented by the Croatian NGO CERANEO.
