President of the Association EPEKA, Soc. Ent., Štefan Simončič will hold a lecture at the aimed discussion Together We Are More Successful: Looking for New Approaches and Possibilites for Greater Inclusion of Roma to the Labor Market.
The Office for National Minorities has in the previous two years hosted two projects under the umbrella of the National Platform for Roma (“Strengthening the National Advisory Process in Slovenia by Establishing National Platform for Roma – SIFOROMA” and “Strengthening National Advisory Process in Slovenia via Continuing and Upgrading of the Part of National Platform for Roma – SIFOROMA2”). In this year, the third year of the project, main emphasis of the activities is on implementation of measure by the National Programme of Measures by the RS Government for Roma in the period 2017-2021 (NPUR 2017-2021) and monitoring their implementation.
With the NPUR 2017-2021 measures in the field of active employment of Roma we wish to achieve the following strategic goal: increase employment and reduce unemployment of Roma with the emphasis on the employment activation of the long-term unemployed and dismantling of the obstacles at entering the job market.
The aim of the event was an annual evalvation of the state in the field of encouragning employment of Roma and about the effects of implementation of the NPUR 2017-2021, done by the Institute of Peace. Evalvation
The event is based on the annual evaluation of the state of play in the field of Roma employment promotion and the impact of the implementation of the measures of the NSRF 2017-2021, carried out by the Institute of Peace. The evaluation concludes that the current employment situation is very unfavourable for members of the Roma community and that Roma are one of the most vulnerable groups on the labour market. The evaluation therefore considers that additional and specific measures are needed in the area of employment to improve the employment opportunities of the Roma population and reduce their unemployment, as this area has a far-reaching impact on the life and progress of the Roma community in other areas as well.
The aim of the event is to identify new approaches and explore ways to remove barriers and reduce unemployment among Roma and increase their labour market inclusion. In the plenary part of the debate, we will listen to experiences from the field and outline the situation in the field of Roma employment, where we will address the specific problems of multi-generational unemployment of members of the Roma community. We will then work together to identify possible solutions and measures that could be meaningfully translated into the 2017-2021 NDPD.
