On the occasion of World Frog Day, we invite you to join us for an event that aims to highlight the importance of amphibians in nature and the challenges faced by frogs and other amphibians in today’s environment.

Frogs are an important part of ecosystems. They feed on insects, serve as food for other animals and, through their presence, indicate the state of the environment, especially water, wetlands and moist habitats. Because they are sensitive to pollution, drought, habitat loss and traffic, their disappearance warns us that changes are taking place in nature that we must not ignore.

The event is being prepared together with young people, who will actively participate in researching the ecological importance of frogs, preparing content and carrying out activities. EPEKA youth workers will support them as facilitators, helping them formulate questions, look for solutions and present their findings to other participants.

Special attention will be given to frog migrations, which take place in spring when frogs move from their wintering sites to breeding grounds. During this migration, they often cross roads, which can be fatal for them. We will discuss how local communities, volunteers and individuals can help frogs cross roads safely. We will present examples of temporary fences, manual transfer of amphibians, warning signs and long-term solutions such as amphibian tunnels.

Young people will also reflect on how they can raise awareness of this topic among their peers, families and the wider public. Together, we will prepare ideas for short messages, posters or local actions that could help increase the attention of drivers and residents during the spring migration period.

The event is intended for everyone interested in nature, animal protection and concrete ways in which small actions can contribute to preserving life around us.
