Ljubljana
The Association EPEKA, Soc. Ent., in cooperation with the Romanco – Rman Roma Herbal Association and the Loli Luludi Association, is preparing a special experience of Roma culinary heritage at the Green Fair in Ljubljana as part of the Roma Soul Food project.
The event will combine culinary arts, herbalism and personal stories, creating a bridge between rich tradition and modern sustainable practices.
The Roma Soul Food project explores and preserves the gastronomic heritage of the Roma community in Slovenia, Greece and Serbia. Food appears in the project as a means of intercultural dialogue and connecting different generations. At the fair, we will introduce visitors to traditional Roma dishes, enriched with herbs and spices that have a special meaning in Roma culture. We will also show how Roma have shaped their diet throughout history in close harmony with nature and how these traditions can inspire modern sustainable dietary approaches.
The Romanco – Rman Roma Herbalist Association, which was founded in 2021 with the aim of reviving the Roma herbalist tradition, will also participate in the event. The association has so far conducted more than a hundred workshops across Slovenia – from the Roma settlement in Šentjernej to elementary schools in Novo mesto and Trebnje. Their activities include collecting medicinal plants, preparing herbal teas, and learning the basics of herbalist skills. They pay special attention to the intergenerational transfer of knowledge, movement in nature, and raising awareness about the importance of preserving the environment. In this way, they intertwine ancient knowledge with modern challenges and opportunities for the community.
At the Green Fair, you will be able to taste traditional Roma dishes with us, learn about the rich herbalist tradition, and indulge in stories that connect food, nature, and community.
You are invited to join us at the Green Fair in Ljubljana and discover the richness of Roma culture!
