The Association EPEKA, Soc. Ent., is a partner in the KA2 Erasmus+ project “Artistic Youth Quarter” with partners from Belgium, Bulgaria and Slovenia.
There is a great demand in youth work for opportunities where youth workers can work with organisations and youth arts communities to carry out activities in public space. We also asked this question in all the participating organisations. To answer this question, we will create a European map in the form of a poster during the project, with a special focus on locations in the local community. The poster will also show the progress of the project. It will be implemented locally as well as transnationally, as it will connect the international artistic community.
The objectives of the project are:
- to implement high quality youth work with the product of a map of public spaces where young people can create,
- to promote and empower youth participation or participation and active citizenship within the project,
- to increase training and teaching methods among educators and youth workers.

From 8 to 10 April, we hosted the “Artneighboryouth” project in the city of Maribor. We tried to bring together young people, youth organisations (youth workers) and youth workers from educational institutions. The main aim or goal of our project was to promote art in public space. For this reason we decided to use the public areas of an abandoned building and the underpass area of a market. We decided to give these public spaces a new look. To do this, we used graffiti. Invited guests from Serbia as well as Slovenian participants redesigned the surfaces with their own graffiti. We started our work right after breakfast and finished shortly before dinner. During our work many people stopped and watched us. There were young families with children, students and also people from the older generation. They praised our work and also commented on it. Many people wished that something like this would happen more often and that it would improve the image of the city. Of course, it was not without minor problems. At first, the police and the Sintal security service thought that we were drawing and creating graffiti without any kind of permission. We resolved everything amicably and peacefully.

Many people said it would be nice to do such things repeatedly, and that the city could change the image by that. We also had a bit of problems with Police and security sevice Sintal. They have thought that we draw and create graffiti without any allowance. Everything was solved in a peaceful and consensual manner.
