BUILDING OUR FUTURE TOGETHER: From Solidarity to Housing Justice
2026 to 2027,
Maribor
Association EPEKA is delighted to announce the start of a new international project titled BUILDING OUR FUTURE TOGETHER: From Solidarity to Housing Justice (BFT). The project connects the citizens of Maribor and Kharkiv, Ukraine, to address pressing social challenges such as housing insecurity, rising living costs, and the exclusion of vulnerable groups, focusing on solidarity and democratic cooperation across borders.
Over the next twelve months, we will establish a transnational dialogue on cooperative housing as a fair, inclusive, and sustainable alternative to speculative markets. The central event of the project will be a three-day international gathering in Maribor, bringing together youth, minorities, displaced persons, people with disabilities, and local stakeholders. Through workshops, the exchange of best practices, and a public round table, we will co-create a joint statement and brochure to serve as tools for advocating for housing justice.
The BFT project systematically emphasizes gender equality, non-discrimination, and child rights throughout all phases. Our goal is to empower citizens to become active ambassadors of European values, enshrined in the Charter of Fundamental Rights. In the long term, the project lays the foundation for future cooperation between the EU and Ukraine, which will be particularly significant for future reconstruction and recovery efforts.
Stay tuned to our updates for details on upcoming activities and opportunities to join the project, which proves that through twinning and mutual understanding, we can build a shared European future based on justice.
The project is funded under the CERV program. Project funded by the European Union.
