Duo El Clasico, Judgement Tower Maribor

The first concert in this year’s Classics Today?Tomorrow? series will be a performance by Duo El Clasico on Tuesday, 26 October at 7 pm in the Judgement Tower. Duo El Clasico consists of Tomaž Adamič on clarinet and Matjaž Balažic on accordion.

As students at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Graz, they met more than ten years ago and have been performing regularly in Slovenia and abroad ever since. They are also active as studio musicians and are planning a series of concert seminars in the near future, where they want to introduce their instruments and chamber music in general to young musicians.

Tomaž Adamič started playing the clarinet at the Celje Music School, where he successfully completed his lower and secondary music studies, and then continued his education at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Graz, where he graduated with honours in concert and pedagogy. At the same university, he further devoted himself to the study of chamber music and the playing of early music on original instruments. He has further studied with many renowned clarinettists (Mate Bekavac, Sabine Mayer, Markus Schön, Wenzel Fuchs, Andreas Schablas, Ernst Schlader, Yuan Yuan), and has taken part in various competitions and as a soloist, He is a member of chamber ensembles (ChAt Quartet, Duo El Clasico, Harmonie Palais Meran) and orchestras (RTV Slovenia Symphony Orchestra, Maribor National Theatre Orchestra, Camerata Sinfonica Austria) and performs in Slovenia and abroad. Since 2013 he has been teaching at the Lower and Secondary Music School in Celje.

Matjaž Balažic studied at the Music School Murska Sobota under Matej Zavec, the Secondary Music and Ballet School in Maribor under Prof. Andrej Lorber, and the Graz University of Music and Performing Arts (Janne Rättyä), where he graduated in July 2013 and received his Master’s degree in March 2017. He is a multiple prize-winner of various competitions at home and abroad (TEMSIG, Castelfidardo, Pula, Beltinci, Majano).He performs as a soloist, member of various chamber groups, as well as with orchestras (Slovenian Philharmonic, Camerata Austria). He has also appeared on stages all over the world with the Piazzolleky Quintet, which has been recreating the music of the Argentine tango for more than a decade. Since 2015 he has been working at the Maribor Conservatory of Music and Ballet.
