Štefan Simončič, President of the Association EPEKA, Soc. Ent., will participate in the conference “Runaway minors in harmful environments (so-called premature marriages) and forced marriages of Roma children”, which will take place on 8 November in Ljubljana.
In 2014, the Institute of Social Welfare of the Republic of Slovenia published a study on forced marriages of Roma girls. Four years have passed since the publication and presentation of the findings of this research. During this period, the awareness of the competent institutions of the need for coordinated, concerted and, above all, child-centred action and decision-making has started to grow, but many challenges remain in this area. The objectives of the event are:
- to find answers to the questions raised and to define the key levers for progress – for effective interventions and for addressing challenges in a systemic and preventive way through a multidisciplinary approach.
- to talk openly about the phenomena of ‘early marriage’ and forced marriages of Roma girls and boys, and to hear the views and experiences of all those involved or linked in any way to addressing these phenomena, i.e. in an inter-institutional and multidisciplinary way.
