NIJZ
NIJZ recommends AstraZeneca vaccine for use in people aged 18-64 years. The members of the Vaccine Advisory Group (VAG) have made a proposal to recommend AstraZeneca for use in 18-64 year olds, as there is insufficient data on vaccine efficacy in older age groups.
Nevertheless, AZ vaccination is recommended for home vaccination of non-mobile persons, regardless of age (initially 80 years and older, and subsequently according to the age/associated diseases strategy), as this vaccine, unlike mRNA vaccines, is more stable and allows transport of the prepared vaccine to the vaccination site.
As mRNA vaccines are currently only targeted at the elderly aged 80 years and over (followed by the elderly aged 75 years and over, and then the elderly aged 70 years and over, plus particularly vulnerable chronic patients regardless of age), AstraZeneca vaccines are recommended to be prioritised for the following groups:
- Healthcare professionals who have not been vaccinated before,
- Institutionalised persons (wards and staff in SNFs, CIRIUSs, prisons and other similar institutions) who have not been vaccinated before,
- staff and pupils of schools for people with special needs who have not yet been vaccinated,
- vaccination of particularly vulnerable chronic patients aged 18-64 years (may also be used for elderly with or without chronic diseases if they express a wish to be vaccinated as soon as possible, at the discretion of their chosen personal physician)
After the particularly vulnerable groups of chronic patients aged 18-64 years, other chronic patients aged 18-64 years are next in line for the AZ vaccine, f
ollowed by the 60-64 years age group (healthy), and then the emergency services.
The PSC proposes that the priority groups within the emergency services necessary for the functioning of the state should be defined by the MoH or the Government of the Republic of Slovenia.
