19 October, 2018
Minorite Church, Maribor

The Association EPEKA, Soc. Ent., invites you to a concert Duo Vita & Žan: Harmony of distant species. The concert starts on Friday, 19 October 2018, at 19.00 in Maribor Minorite Church.

The cello and the accordion are instruments of opposite poles. The former has been a “standard-bearer” in classical ensembles and compositions since the Baroque period, while the accordion is all too often unjustifiably seen as an exotic, as a stranger from other genres, who has come to the classical world only to visit. That is why this unusual but very rich chamber ensemble offers a new sonic experience for the listener. The delicate string sound blends into the wide polyphony of the accordion, creating a perfect contrast, while at the same time representing a meeting point of respect for art and love of music.

Aesthetically rich contrast is also a common thread in the choice of repertoire in the work of this renowned duo. They range from the technically sophisticated Baroque, through the emotional Romanticism, the mathematical music of the modern era, to the standards of Argentine Tango.

Vita Peterlin and Žan Trobas began their work while studying together at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Graz, Austria. Both are recipients of several international awards and have performed as soloists with renowned musicians and orchestras. They have given numerous concerts at home and abroad, including at the legendary Carnegie Hall in New York, La Madeleine in Paris and Ishibashi Memorial Hall in Tokyo.

The concert Duo Vita & Žan: Harmonies of Distant Species is part of the “Classics Today? tomorrow?” series, within which we will be staging two more concerts.
