EVS in Sinop, Turkey, 2016

Our volunteer Žiga says that he would recommend the volunteering experience he has just had in Sinop, Turkey, to anyone. 🙂 “I am volunteering as part of the EVS exchange in Sinop. In the centre for children with special needs up to the age of 18, I teach children different board games, especially chess. There is a lot of interest in learning this game, so it is also a pleasure for me to contribute to their knowledge of this brain-training table game. Soon, when the school year in Turkey comes to an end and the gyms are freed up as a result, I will also be teaching interested children the basics of playing basketball. In addition, in the afternoons I am also helping with the preparation of ‘Sinopal’, a very interesting art biennial which will start at the end of July and will take place in Sinop. I am meeting a lot of very interesting people – not only from Turkey, but also from other parts of the world. I am also helping an organisation that provides food and shelters for abandoned animals in Sinop. I take the animals for walks and help with food distribution. Despite all these activities, I still have time to socialise, travel around Turkey and get to know the rich culture here. For me, it is definitely a great experience and I recommend it to everyone.
