Growth, maturity and the future on Earth

EPEKA, Soc.Ent., hosted the presentation of the Slovenian translation of the book GROWTH: A Vocabulary for a New Era, where the topic was the new paradigms of development that are urgently needed today if we want to survive in our world within the limits of the earth’s limitations.
The vocabulary under consideration offers a number of new solutions, but it is even more powerful in combining different solutions into a new paradigm of thought. It contains the basic building blocks that are important for a deeper understanding of growing up, and it is up to us to link these building blocks into a story that can help us untangle the Gordian knot of civilisation.
Growing up dispels the myth that growth is the central and only solution for our society. Prosperity for all can be achieved without exceeding the limits imposed by the planet we live on.
Times of crisis call for new stories, and growing up offers such a new story, a new vision. In the course of the discussion, the candidates for MEPs presented their views, experiences and concerns, and we also gave the floor to activists and all those who want to play an active role on the road to a sustainable future.
There are many examples of growth in practice in Maribor and we will take this opportunity to highlight them. We were expecting Denis Ploj, Director of Dobrina Cooperative, who was absent due to unavoidable commitments. Nevertheless, we presented how the cooperative for the development of sustainable local provision was created in 2011 and how it works today.
“Whoever believes that infinite growth is possible in a finite world is either a madman or an economist.” Kenneth Boulding, 1973.
