On Thursday, 11 March 2021, we invite you to a training session on agriculture, specifically farm takeover and the status of young farmer.

Agriculture can also be an alternative employment opportunity. Only 11% of all farms in the European Union (EU) are run by farmers under 40. Convincing more young people to take up farming is a real challenge, so we will have an external speaker with us to bring this topic to life. With an ageing farming population, the EU is stepping up its efforts to get younger generations interested in farming. Young farmers who decide to take up farming receive help in the form of start-up grants, income support and benefits such as additional training. Supporting the next generation of European farmers strengthens the future competitiveness of European agriculture while ensuring Europe’s food supply well into the future. Additional measures under rural development programmes are often also available to young farmers at the start. Such support can include grants, loans or guarantees to help develop rural businesses, or advice on how best to get into farming. These rural development measures are also supported under the Young Farmers Initiative, which combines support from the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD) and the expertise of the European Investment Bank. This support will total €1 billion. At least 10% of the amount lent to the participating banks will be made available to farmers under the age of 41 on competitive financing terms.

In order to comply with the regulations and safeguards related to the prevention of the spread of COVID-19, the activity will be carried out 2 times to ensure that the number of persons involved does not exceed the limits. The first session will take place from 14.30 – 16.00 and the second from 16.30 – 18.00. Please register by phone or email in the group that suits you best, the maximum number of persons in each group is 8.

Participation is free of charge. The event will be held in accordance with the recommendations of the NIJZ.
