NIJZ
The NIJZ (National Institute of Public Health https://nijz.si/) has published new findings related to the purchase and use of foodstuffs and the possible transfer of COVID-19.
There is currently no reliable evidence that infection with the new SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus can be transmitted through food or packaging.
Transmission of the new coronavirus via packaging is not as important as first thought, so disinfection of packaging after leaving the store is not necessary. Disinfection is potentially hazardous because disinfectants and cleaning agents are not suitable for use on food, risking chemical contamination or poisoning.
Frequent hand washing using soap and warm water (20 seconds) and drying with a clean towel (5 seconds) is the best defence against this virus and many other infectious agents that may be present on the surface or packaging.
