7 – 10 September, 2020
Berane, Montenegro

In 2020, EPEKA, a social enterprise, launched the project Economic and Social Empowerment of Roma and Egyptian Women in the Municipality of Berane and its Surroundings (ESORE).

It is funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia, under the NGO Development and Humanitarian Projects 2020-2022.

As a result of the impact of the new coronavirus, the Roma community in Montenegro is facing deepening economic and social hardship.

In order to alleviate the crisis, a humanitarian action will be carried out during a field visit between 7 and 10 September 2020. The crisis has affected the target group of the project,

During the campaign, we will distribute humanitarian food packages and disinfectants to Roma families in need, which we have prepared in cooperation with PETROL d.d., Ljubljana.

The project is co-financed by the International Development Cooperation of Slovenia, coordinated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

EPEKA, Soc.Ent. is contributing EUR 8,600.00, SLOGA – Slovenian Global Action is contributing EUR 1,400.00 and Petrol is donating EUR 1,750.00 and humanitarian packages.

This means that Roma families in need will receive a total of EUR 11,750.00 worth of humanitarian aid.

The EPEKA, Soc.Ent. project team will go into the field. As part of the humanitarian action, it will record the needs within the Roma community in the municipality of Berane and the surrounding area.

It will also carry out trainings aimed at empowering members of the Roma community. A major problem is the economic and social hardship they face and will raise their awareness on preventive protection against the virus.

During the field visit, we will keep the general public informed about the progress of the campaign through social media posts, where we will publish information about the visit on a daily basis. FB profile of EPEKA, Soc. p.: https://www.facebook.com/epeka.slovenia/
